On Easter Monday 1979, the Branch Line Society ran its "Waterloo and Buchan" railtour from Aberdeen to Waterloo, Maud, Fraserburgh, Strichen and Ellon. Class 122 single railcar SC55007, marked as set 178 on one end, was used. Passenger services were withdrawn here at Ellon in 1965, and freight services has ceased in 1978, although they still operated through to Fraserburgh, with the line closing in October 1979. Class 122 Single Car DMU 55014 at Hamilton West on April 16th 1979 seen during the visit of the Midland Railfans Scottish Rambler. This was no longer a passenger vehicle - note the double doors in the centre, and it carries Rosyth Dockyard on the destination blind. There is a Class 107 in the background in Hamilton depot. "Bubble car" 55013 in parcels service - note the whited-out windows - leads a class 101 triple past the Cowlairs junctions, and Eastfield depot on the right, on the 19.48 Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen St on 3.7.79. The single unit was technically a class 131 in this guise. Leonard Rogers.

At least nine of these Class 122 single units saw service as route learners (note the wiper on the centre cab window). TDB975023, the former W55001, was still looking very smart when I photographed it on 6th August 1979 passing through Cardiff at 13.25 on a route learning exercise. Gerard Fletcher.

On 27 August 1979, the Branch Line Society "Fiddichburger No 2" railtour is seen at Forres Goods loading dock. This class 122 "bubble car" was built by Gloucester RC&W Co. It was new in 1958 and at the time of the tour was allocated to Inverness. Jeremy Chapter.

Branch Line Society "Fiddichburger No. 2" rail tour 27 August 1979. Gloucester single railcar Sc55002 (class 122) is seen at Dufftown. This unit was new in 1958 at Tyseley and would run until December 1986. Dufftown station closed for passengers in 1968 but is now the headquarters for the Keith and Dufftown railway. Jeremy Chapter.
