The "Caerwent Cannonball" railtour was organised by the Monmouthshire Railway Society and RCTS on March 15, 1980. At Blaenavon in South Wales, this end of the six-car formation is a class 118 set, set B462 containing 51304/59477/51319. At the far end is Class 101 set B803 51450 + 59546 + 51522. Jeremy Chapter.

The Hertfordshire Railtours "Valleybasher" tour on 3 May 1980 was mainly loco-hauled, but for the trip to Newport Docks a six-car BRCW class 118 suburban unit was used (W51329 closest). The train is seen here at the Docks with the 1906 Transporter Bridge over the river Usk the main feature in the background. Jeremy Chapter.

A class 118 dmu (B468, presumably 51325 59471 51310) on a Hereford to Birmingham New St service exits Rainbow Hill tunnel shortly after leaving Worcester Foregate Street. The semaphore signals remain continuing to serve the junction for the two Worcester stations and servicing point. 6/7/80. Stephen Burdett.

Plymouth Laira Depot Class 117 three-car set P463 with W51320 leading (and preaumably (presumably 59472 + 51305 behind), bustles its way into Quintrell Downs with a Par to Newquay branch service on July 21st 1980. The hand-operated gated level crossing bisected the A5038 and along with its lower quadrant home signals the lady Crossing Keeper here controlled all the movements. Martyn Hilbert.

Two-car BRCW Class 118 DMU with Driving Motor Second (DMS) W51327 leading (and presumably 51312), was in the bay platform at the West end of Plymouth station with a service to Gunnislake on July 26th 1980. Martyn Hilbert.

A Class 118 3-Car DMU with Motor Brake Second W51320 leading (and presumably 59472 + 51305 behind) stands at the single active platform at Falmouth ready to depart on another 11.75 mile journey to the bay platform on the Cornish Main Line at Truro on July 29th 1980. Although much rationalisation has taken place, at least passengers have been spared the bus shelter treatment, and the original platform canopy was still in use. Martyn Hilbert.

Leaning into the curve alongside the Hayle Estuary, Class 118 Driving Motor Second W51328 (and presumably 59509 + 51313) had arrived at Lelant Saltings with the branch service from St Ives on July 30th 1980. The single platform station at Lelant Saltings, on the St Erth to St Ives line was opened in 1978 as a 'Park & Ride' facility for the town of St Ives. Martyn Hilbert.
