108 DMU

25th November 1980

A Class 108 Derby DMU arrives at a two platformed Lytham station on November 25, 1980, the line still being at this time, double tracked from St Annes to Kirkham. The line through Lytham was singled in 1986 and only the opposite platform remained in use, as it does today. The footbridge lasted a lot longer, approximately 20 years, before being demolished. 24th December 1980

Seen from the embankment above Penistone station, a two car refurbished Class 108 DMU slows for its stop on a Sheffield-Huddersfield service on Christmas Eve, 1980. At this stage the Sheffield and Huddersfield trains were still going through the time-consuming reversal at Nunnery to access Sheffield's Midland station, prior to the re-routing of the service via Barnsley which was still over two years away. The Woodhead overhead line inspection train is stabled in the sidings behind. There would be no more Christmas Eves for the Woodhead route. Andrew Walker.

A twelve-car DMU forms a return holiday train from North Wales passing through Castleton station sometime in 1981. The formation was, from this end, two two-car 108s, a 108 DTC / Class 100 DMBS, two two-car Class 101s, and a two-car Class 103. Richard Greenwood.

An unidentified two-car Class 108 set pauses at Brough on the evening of 31st March 1981 with a Hull - Leeds service. At this date, Brough still had it's original waiting shelters, bay platforms and wooden crossing gates. The area to the right of the photograph was the goods yard which disappeared under a housing development in the late 1980s. Syd Young.
