Sunday Shift. Derby 107 448 on the rear of a six car set, leaving Paisley Canal on a Glasgow Central - Ayr working. It is heading towards the mainline at Elderslie No.1. The Canal line closed in January 1983 but this is a Sunday diversion due to engineering work. For a period of time post closure, the Canal line acted as a relief during engineering works or emergencies on the main line via Gilmour Street. April 1983. alicia hartman.

107 DMU

15th June 1983

Set: 1017440

Two Class 107s (107440 and presumably 52001 leading) approach the site of the closed Elderslie station at the head of the 09:45 Ayr to Glasgow Central service on Wednesday 15th June 1983. Elderslie was once a major junction on the old Glasgow & South Western system. Separate lines from Glasgow via both Paisley stations (Gilmour Street and Canal) once converged at the east end of the station whilst, to the west, the line to Greenock Princes Pier diverged from the main line to the Ayrshire coast and Stranraer. This view is looking west, the rusting rails leading towards Greenock can be seen diverging to the left just beyond the signal gantry before dropping down behind Elderslie No 2 box and passing under the Ayrshire lines to head north. The line from Greenock can be seen emerging from the right to the rear of the DMU. Elderslie station itself had closed in 1966 and this was taken from the footbridge which had once given access to the station, also now long gone. Brian McDevitt.

107 DMU

15th June 1983

Driving Motor Brake 2nd (formerly Driving Motor Brake Composite) Sc52032 leads a three car Class 107 through Elderslie with the 10:00 service from Glasgow Central to Ayr on Wednesday 15th June 1983. This view is looking east from the footbridge which once gave access to the station. The station site is indicated by the way the running lines deviate either side of the no longer extant island platforms in the foreground. The lines leading straight on beyond Elderslie No 1 box head towards Paisley Gilmour Street and Glasgow Central whilst the lines coming in from the right are the remnants of the Paisley Canal line, closed a few months previously. The signal arm on the eastbound line giving access to the Paisley Canal line has already been removed and presumably the army of permanent way staff on the right is indulging in a further bout of rationalisation. Brian McDevitt.
