 DMU

September 1984

Set: B430

Class 117 DMU, set B430 (presumably 51368 59520 51410) is about to pass Stoke Edith SB Up Distant signal with a service from Hereford to Oxford, September 1984. The distant would disappear along with Stoke Edith and Shelwick Junction signal boxes when the line was singled a couple of months later in November of that year. John Crooks.

 DMU

30th March 1985

Set: TS400

Despite what the destination blind says, Met-Cam class 101 DMU, set TS400 is approaching Stoke Edith Open Level Crossing from the Hereford direction on its way to Ledbury, Worcester and beyond. The redundant line is still in place at this point, although it is doubtful the sleeper chained across the top of the rail would seriously stop any wagon from ending up in the road. 30th March 1985. John Crooks.

 DMU

30th March 1985

Set: TS400

With evidence of track recovery alongside, Met-Cam class 101 DMU, set TS400 approaches Stoke Edith Open Level Crossing, as it was then, on the recently singled line between Ledbury and Hereford, this units final destination. 30th March 1985. John Crooks.

 DMU

circa 1986

Set: B468

Bristol based DMU B468 (presumably 51325 + 59471 + 51310) on the last leg of it's journey from Worcester to Hereford at Stoke Edith circa 1986. John Crooks.

 DMU

August 1988

Class 101 unit at Stoke on Trent in August 1988. Ian Buck.

 DMU

30th May 1989

Set: T134

Looking a bit lost in Worcestershire countryside, class 121 single unit 55034 is seen here between Stoke Works Junction and Bromsgrove on 30 May 1989 while working a Worcester Shrub Hill to Birmingham New Street service. These were the only trains serving Bromsgrove at the time, a far cry from 2023 when there is a 4 train per hour pattern with electric units catering for the increase in passenger numbers fueled by extensive housing development. Peter Tandy.

 DMU

Unknown Date

 DMU

2nd May 1993

On 2 May 1993 Pathfinder ran a mini-railtour in connection with an open day at Worcester using 20138+20066. The 2 locos were, unusually, hauling two 4-car DMUs, T404 (51853+59735+59604+53919) + T412 (51860+59591+59446+53116) which ran from Birmingham New Street to Worcester via the Lickey incline, and then on to Hereford and back via Great Malvern. The first of four shots was taken as train slowed for the junction at Stoke Prior before it turned onto the single line to Droitwich and Worcester. Peter Tandy.

There was plenty of time to run over to Stoke Edith, on the Worcester - Hereford line, to obtain the third of four shots. The sun still co-operated for this pleasantly rural view. Peter Tandy.

This was the final shot of four of the tour - no longer in full sun which infuriated some of the more vocal enthusiasts - but still quite an acceptable shot. It is the classic view at Stoke Edith which I expect is now so overgrown as to be unusable. Peter Tandy.

 DMU

18th May 1994

Set: 665

Met-Camm set 665 (51429 + 54393) passes through Stoke-on-Trent with an ECS on May 18, 1994. John Carter.

 DMU

24th August 1994

Set: 101651

Class 101 53201+54379 arrives at Stoke-on-Trent on the 24th August 1994 with a service from Manchester Piccadilly. Kevin Law.

 DMU

17th June 2006

Set: 901001

Network Rail's class 101 DMMU 901001 (977391 + 999602 + 977392) was booked to run to the south-west from Derby on 17 June 2006. It ran nearly one hour early and is seen here at Stoke Prior having just descended the Lickey Incline. It's good that it is still possible to still see a "proper" DMU, albeit in a colour scheme previously alien to the class. Peter Tandy.
