Despite living by the Reading-Tonbridge line when WR dmus took over the service, I only ever got this one picture of a Metro-Cammell Class 101 dmu. The Class 101s were intended to be the replacements for the Tadpoles, and one appeared on the 07:44 Tonbridge-Redhill a few times in "corporate blue" days, but they were found to be unsuitable from the outset and were covered by other types until the Class 119s arrived. This picture was taken much later, about 10 years after the changeover, and shows a 101 leaving Guildford for Reading. Tony Watson.
Then the usual traction on Reading-Tonbridge/Gatwick services, an NSE liveried Class 119 enters Guildford in March 1991. By this time, the tortuously worded "Passenger Luggage Stowage Area" signs had been removed from the guards van and former buffet area and replaced with the simple "North Downs" branding.
