I was mildly surprised to see the "Midline Bubble" on the main line from Derby to Birmingham in May 1988 when it was photographed approaching Water Orton. Mechanical DMUs were not common on this line at the time with Sprinters having taken over most services. The destination board said that the unit was "Not in Service" but wasn't able to find out where it had been but assumed that it was going to Tyseley LMD. The relatively new M42 and part of the long-gone Hams Hall Power station can be seen in the background of this picture. Peter Tandy.

Tyseley DMU set T332 at Water Orton on 28 March 1988. Class 116 DMBS 53865 leads, still carrying an E prefix from a previous allocation to Stratford almost two years previous. The centre car is presumably Class 127 TSL 59598 and the rear DMBS Class 116 53073.
