Middlesbrough at 8:58am on Saturday 02/08/1980, with vehicle E50256 nearest the camera, with a service for Darlington. Its headcode box, by this time defunct, appears unusual, possibly a little smaller than normal, the inner square so black it looks like it may have been painted, without the usual central dividing line. The 13.23 Darlington to Saltburn service stands at Middlesbrough on Thursday July 2nd 1981 formed of a Class 101 Metro-Cammell twin unit. The power car leading (E50221) is looking smart having been in for a works overhaul four months before. New in August 1957 it was no stranger to the area, having been based at Sunderland, South Gosforth or Darlington all its life. It is paired with E56386. Gerard Fletcher.
