Vehicle: 54382 Set: 03
A view of Colchester depot late in the afternoon of 22nd April 1989. On the left is Met Camm DMU 54382 + 51438 in which we had earlier travelled to Sudbury, and beyond is a class 312 EMU. On the right are two ex-steam loco tenders converted to snowploughs in the early 1960s ADE330968 and 330977 which lasted another decade or so before being cut up on site here as the last of their type to survive on the network. Murray Liston.
A Class 105 DMU sits outside Colchester depot on 21 June 1986. 31175 can be glimpsed inside. Roger Geach.
Vehicle: 55027 Set: L127
One of three Class 121 "bubble cars" still in service at the time, L127, or vehicle 55027, pauses outside Colchester shed on 16 March 1998. As the destination blind suggests, this vehicle, and sisters 55029 and 55031, could be found working between Marks Tey and Sudbury - the only unelectrified branch in the area. By the following year the three units had transferred from Ilford to Bletchley for use on the Marston Vale line to Bedford. After withdrawal from passenger service, 55027 was converted to departmental use, and then as one of two emergency vehicles for the Severn Tunnel. Chris Boon.
