In the fading-light of an Summer evening, a six-car BRCW Class 104 'White Line' DMU formation was arriving at Wigan Wallgate with a Manchester Victoria to Southport service on August 26th 1977. The leading car was Driving Motor Brake Second M50472. The Newton Heath allocated white-liners were normally associated with the Manchester Victoria to Blackpool North services, but also had peak-time workings on the Southport line.
