1986 saw a welcome return of Swindon DMUs to Ayrshire in the form of an influx of Cross Country Units. Most of the Swindon units had received Metro Cammel centre cars. Here 53651 (formerly of Derby Etches Park set 519, and appears to have a broken window mid-vehicle) and 53648 are seen at the magnificent Ayr station.
