Newcastle Central station on 24th April 1974 and a dmu bound for Carlisle ticks over in the bay platform. The date on the disused water crane on the left can just be made out; 1946 & evidence of post-war investment by the LNER. I think the Newcastle sign still had a Northeastern Region orange background.
