Derby lightweight at West Parade North Junction, Hull

May 1968

SC79036 + 79189 pass West Parade North Junction on the Scarborough line at Hull in May 1968. Officially withdrawn (from Leith Central in June 1967), they were in route learning use, possibly based at York. Seen at lunchtime on their return from the coast, these route learners were a regular feature in the Spring months for several years: they originated in West Yorkshire and took men over the route to Brid and Scarborough in preparation for the summer extras to the coastal resorts. DMU

Date: 1957

A Derby Lightweight sits in the bay platform at Wickford Junction, circa early 1957 with a Southminster service. DTC E79252 is closest, presumably with DMBS E79036. They had been delivered to Norwich and transferred to Stratford in September 1956. On the left an EMU enters with a Down train, the Shenfield to Southend had just recently been electrified.
