On the bright afternoon of September 20th 1981, a variety of dmus grace Sheffield station. The identity of the Class 108 in the middle background is unknown,on the left in the shadows is a Trans-Pennine set with E51964 at the front, while out in the sun is a sparkling Metro-Cammell Class 111 three car set : E51552 + E59106 + E51542. The Saturdays-only Paddington to Stratford-upon-Avon DMU, unusually formed of set TS603, 2 class 116 cars sandwiching a Met-Camm trailer (the vehicles are presumably M51136, M59106 and M51149), rather than the usual 6 cars. Taken from the platform at South Ruislip, date unknown. Someone has changed the destination board to Birmingham Moor Street possibly to ready it for work the following day. I doubt if this caused too much confusion at least until the train reached Leamington Spa! David Ive.
