Class 104 DMU at Farington Moss

11th May 1981

A view along the then double track Ormskirk route on Farington Moss with a Class 104 on the 11.55 Ormskirk to Preston service on a warm May 11th 1981. The two-car DMU is running between the occupation crossings at Naptha Lane and Lodge Lane, the then full-height chimney at the former Moss's Cotton Mill in Lostock Hall is prominent in this flat landscape. Class 104 DMU at Kirkby

24th July 1985

Class 104 BRCW built DMU's were pretty much standard traction for the Wigan to Kirkby branch back in the 1980's ahead of the mass invasion by Pacer Railbuses by the mid 1980's. A Newton Heath allocated 2-car set waits with the 12.29 to Manchester Victoria at the single platform halt on 24 July 1985, 54176 closest. Adrian Nicholls.
