Class 117 DMU at Norwich

13th August 1988

A 6-car Pressed Steel Suburban Tyseley allocated class 117 formation, set T315 (M51394 closest, the DMBS should be 51352), presumably on a cross country working from Birmingham is seen on arrival at Norwich, 13th August 1988. M51394 was one of the last of her class in service making it into Regional Railway colours and is now preserved. Andrew J Crowther.

This is probably an LMR publicity image. The caption on the rear states "Three of the fitters up in the 'pit' ready to give a set the routine once over. L/R Kevin Bisset (Fitter), M.R. Mirza (Asst Fitter), Bob Anderson (Electrician)." I'm guessing this is Tyseley, and the date is circa October 1988 as the date on the set board in the Class 117 window is 11.01.88. British Railways.

Class 117 T315 at Llandrindod crossing late 1980s. The power cars should be 51394 + 51352. David Rowe.

Class 117 DMU at Cradley Heath

March 1990

Leaving Cradley Heath Class 117 set T315 (presumably 51394 + 59745 + 51352) tackles Old Hill Bank on its way to Birmingham New Street with a service from Kidderminster. March 1990. A standing start from Cradley often posed a task for an ailing dmu as the bank started at 1 in 49 and for the next mile was in the main 1 in 51!, Stephen Burdett.

Tyseley based Class 117 DMU set T315 (cars 51352, 59745 and 51394) seen at Wootton Wawen in the summer of 1990. Bob Belcher.

Class 117 DMU at Walsall

1991

Tyseley's dmu set T315 (power cars presumably 51352 + 51394) ticking over at the south end of Walsall station sometime in 1991. At this time passenger services north of the station ran only to Hednesford on what is now called the Chase Line. By 1991 the original South Staffordshire Railway buildings had been demolished on the left and the later interesting round booking hall behind right had been replaced by new department store over the tracks. Class 117 DMU at Stratford-upon-Avon

6th May 1991

Tyseley's dmu set T315 (power cars presumably 51352 + 51394) departs smokily northwards from Stratford station with a Birmingham service to the total indifference of the crowds on the platforms. They were there to see and ride behind GWR King 6024 or BR Standard 8 71000 on a steam special, as I was. Pete LG99.

Class 116 DMU at Claverdon

6th May 1991

This is Claverdon station, between Stratford-upon-Avon and Leamington, on 6 May 1991. My photo was taken while I was waiting for 71000 "Duke of Gloucester" returning the "Royal Shakespeare Shuttle" to Paddington. The DMU approaching on a local service is a hybrid unit with Class 116 DMBS 53865 standing on for the regular DMS. The set number is T315 (Tyseley), and the other vehicles are presumably 59745 + 51352. Lewis Bevan.

Class 117 DMU at Hereford

21st September 1991

Tyseley set T315 - a 117/115/117 (51352 + 59745 + 51394) leaves Hereford for Birmingham New Street on 21 September 1991. Stuart Mackay Collection.
