Class 127 55978, set number 918, is seen poking out of the factory at Tyseley on 01.08.87. It had just been on the wheel lathe. It was converted from 51608. Andy Cole.

Class 127 DMU at Stafford

20th August 1988

When the Class 127 DMUs finally bowed out of the St. Pancras - Bedford services, 22 power cars were resurrected from store at Carlisle Upperby (one of them, the pioneer 51591, was re-claimed from the NRM) and converted for parcels use. They were formed into 11 two car sets and allocated to Longsight in Manchester. Here set 918 with 55978 at the rear of 55968 is being led by set 912 (55972 & 55982) at Stafford, 20/Aug/1988. Class 127 DMU at Crewe Gresty Lane

28th May 1990

Parcels unit 918 (55978 formerly 51608 and 55968 formerly 51637), converted from the power cars of a former "Bed-Pan" hydraulic class 127 set, sitting sadly withdrawn and awaiting it's fate at Crewe Gresty Lane sidings. Three of these ex-parcels power cars were preserved and currently (2018) all three are at the Midland Railway - Butterley. Robert Chilton.
