The set number was suffixed with a small "A" or "B" which corresponded with the car branded for Newspapers (A) or Express Parcels (B)

Class 127 DMU at Northampton

October 1986

I photographed this Diesel Parcels Unit, carrying the set number 911, at Northampton in October 1986. The set is made up of vehicles 55981/55971, converted from Class 127 cars 51612/51597. Both vehicles had been new in August 1959 and were converted to DPUs in May 1985. The unit was withdrawn from service in May 1989 and both vehicles were scrapped by Mayer Newman at Snailwell. Class 127 DMU at Tyseley

28th June 1987

Class 127 55971, set number 911, is seen on Tyseley Carriage sidings on 28.06.1987 . One of the cars was labeled for Parcels and one was for Newspapers. How times change when both types of traffic have been lost. This was converted from 51597. Andy Cole.

21st July 1989

M55981, ex Class 127 DMBS M51612, converted for parcels use with the addition of roller shutter doors and carrying the set number 911, sits in Basford Hall yard, Crewe on 21st July 1989. Paul James.
