Origininally they were diagram numbers 534/535 in the DMU nubering scheme, this was changed to 406/442 in the EMU scheme, and 534/535 re-issued to Class 117/118s.
In departmental use they carried the numbers 975003/4 and were known as 'Laboratory Vehicle 16', and laterly carried the name "Gemini".
