5th October 1980

The Swindon Works 'Con Yard' on 5th October 1980 contained a Derby Works 'class 125/2' diesel hydraulic multiple unit, 'motor brake second' E51159, ex-Stratford depot, cannibalised for spares, and former GW steam loco tenders presumably used as mobile water storage at the works or elsewhere. Class 125 50992 in Derby Litchurch Lane on the 14th November 1980, with Class 105 50394 to its right. Chris Lings.

22nd July 1984

8 years after being withdrawn in 1976 class 125 DMBS E51156 stands in Tinsley Yard on the 22nd July 1984. Built with hydraulic transmission these units were originally based at Stratford for working the Lea Valley line but electrification displaced them to Finsbury Park for suburban lines out of King's Cross until electrification in 1976. RDB 975993 was formerly Class 125 TS 59458. Its departmental use was as a fire test coach, and is seen in Derby St Marys in April 1985. Ian Francis.
