Heading south with our head out of the window of Tyseley allocated dmu T416, (presumably taken from 59609 with 59648 adjoining) as it returns to the Midlands we pass the newly lengthened platforms 13 & 14 at Manchester Piccadilly, with the now empty signal box in the shot on the right. 13th May 1989. Andrew J Crowther.

Class 116 DMU at Watford Junction

28th May 1989

On Sunday 28th May 1989 the overhead power lines were switched off for maintenance etc, therefore the first few up locals from Birmingham / Rugby and Northampton were DMUs. My train to work that Sunday morning was a 4-car DMU Set from Tyseley depot, seen here in the Up Main Platform at Watford Junction, no doubt the Up Slow Line was also out for track maintenance! The back coach as seen here is a Class 116 53891 departing Watford Junction for Euston. AndrewHA.

Class 115 DMU at Leighton Buzzard

28th May 1989

On Sunday 28th May 1989 the leading coach of Tyseley Set T416 was Class 115 Derby built 51876, seen here entering Leighton Buzzard Station. It was working a train from Birmingham via Northampton to Euston while the OHLW was off for maintenance so DMUs were substituting. AndrewHA.

Class 116 DMU at Barnt Green

26th August 1991

Barnt Green station is at the junction where the Redditch branch leaves the Birmingham to Gloucester main line. On 26 August 1991 Tyseley set T416 was formed of 53891 + 59609 + 59648 + 51876 from classes 116, 127 and 115 as it joined the branch with a Cross City service from Four Oaks. This formation was the usual for Tyseley's four-car sets at the time but class 150s were not far off mass introduction so scenes like this were well worth recording and in 2021 OHLE masts have changed everything with electric units working both the branch and Bromsgrove terminating trains. Peter Tandy.
