A London Midland Region publicity image (negative D4878) showing a two-car Blue Square Derby Lightweight unit at Syston on the Midland Main Line. Closest is M56262, presumably paired with original partner M50979. The pair had a nomadic existence in their early years being allocated to Newton Heath, Bedford, Toton, Fleetwood, Newton Heath again then Buxton - all the first four years! The location suggests it was taken during its time at Toton which was December 1961 to May 1962. British Railways.
A London Midland Region publicity image (negative D5656) showing a Derby Lightweight (blue square) DMU coming off the Runcorn (Ethelfleda) bridge at Widnes. The early stage of dismantling of the Widnes Transporter Bridge seen on the left dates this to circa late 1961 / early 1962. Image courtesy of Diesel Unit Preservation Associates Limited. British Railways.

Not a good quality image but the website does not have many pictures at Chester Northgate. This view in the mid-to-late 1960s shows a BRC&W set flanked by two Derby Lightweight (Blue Square) sets, the one on the right in blue with small yellow panel. David Faircloth.

A (blue square) Derby Lightweight twin (M51913 and presumably M56496) thought to be working the shuttle between St Helens Junction and St Helens Shaw Street (now Central). Date unknown, the shuttle ended in June 1965, so the yellow panel dates it to the 1963-5 period. Behind the unit used to be Peasley Cross station which closed in 1951. There are not many passengers on board, and the seat moquette which I can see better on the original scan is the same as that used in the 2nd class of the Marylebone quads (see image 15353) and the Ayrshire Swindon Inter-City sets (image 24623). Stuart Mackay Collection.
