Set: B800
A Weymouth to Bristol Temple Meads service operated by a class 101 dmu arrives at Yeovil Pen Mill on 9/8/80. The grassed area beyond the dmu was occupied by Pen Mill engine shed which closed in 1959 and to the right the line to Yeovil Town closed to all traffic in 1968. Set B800 probably has 51515 as the DMC leading, working with 59549 + 51445. Stephen Burdett.

Set: 553
A so-called "first generation" dmu (Class 120 set 553) enters Yeovil Pen Mill station with the 14:55 Weymouth - Cardiff service on Tuesday 12th August 1980. The two platform faces seen here are quite unusual, I think, certainly for this part of the world. I'd travelled down that morning from Keynsham behind a class 47, and it seems, based on evidence from the same film, that the purpose of the trip was to photograph class 50s on Waterloo - Exeter services at Yeovil Junction. Note the painted/covered over destination blind box, and the missing set prefix. Set 553 had been transferred from LA to CF circa April that year - the P could have been peeled off and awaiting a C. Tom Harper.

Class 101 set B820 (51512 + 59093 + 51500) at Yeovil Junction on 11/10/1980 while working the Great Western Society 'Devon Rambler' railtour. Although still in blue livery, the front ends have had the headcode boxes removed. The destination blind has been painted over. Unusually, the yellow band for the first class accommodation has been extended above the first door, which also has the number 1. This was a long-term three-car formation, which I observed operating still intact in the Leeds area in 1989. Both driving motors 51500 and 51512 were late survivors, and 51512 is preserved. At Yeovil Pen Mill on 14/6/85 DMU set B591 (presumably formed 51059 + 59433 + 51102) and another form a Weymouth-Bristol service. 33044 is on a Cardiff - Weymouth service. The signal shown controls the lines to Maiden Newton and Yeovil Junction with the aid of a route indicator. Stephen Burdett.
