The 11:40 Cardiff General-Crewe is seen at Newport on 17 October 1970. The Swindon Cross-Country DMU has W50706 closest, it's regular partners were 59296 (still with "Buffet" and a red stripe) and 50648. A Class 116 DMS leads at the far end. Robert Thomas.

A rare visitor to South Wales, this Derby-based Class 104 unit (M50498 + M59165 + M50446) with what appeared to be an empty stock working though Newport on 29th June 1972. It had previously worked a Derby – Cardiff special. Note the EP490 (Etches Park) set number in the cab window. Jim Sparks.

Class 119 DMU set C590 at Newport in late 1979. DMSL W51087 has signs of roof repairs at the back of the cab dome and at cantrail level above the first passenger door. The other two vehicles are presumably 59418 and 51058. Michael Mensing.
