Metro-Cammell Class 101 (1959 batch) Local Passenger 3-car dmu No.51451 (Class 101/2) No.59545 (Class 171) & No.51518 (Class 101/2) on display in Marylebone station, mid-July 1974. This was the first dmu to be refurbished on a trial basis to establish what kind of refurbishment program should be adopted for the first generation dmu's to extend their life owing to the lack of money for new stock. Each car was refurbished to a different standard and the highest standard I thought was excellent. Unfortunately this was too expensive to be adopted in the programme. I worked in the Railways Directorate of the Department of Environment at this time and visited the set as part of my job. The platform this set is on was demolished and replaced by a new office block in the late 1980's Hugh Llewelyn.

Class 115 DMUs stabled outside Marylebone station - with Lisson Green housing estate under construction behind. The Class 115 DMUs were high density sets which operated the outer-suburban services from Marylebone to High Wycombe, Aylesbury and Banbury. They operated the line for more than 30 years, from 1960 to 1991. The Lisson Green estate, seen in the background, was designed in the 1960’s, and built between 1970 and 1975. The estate became a 'no go' area in the 1980s and 1990s. Taken with my basic Kodak Brownie using 120 roll film, circa 1975. Chris McKee.
