The 30th of April 1969 and a Swindon Cross-Country DMU has just arrived at Falmouth station with the 14.10 service from Truro. The KDH Archive.
5th October 1974
The department in Rail House at Manchester that used to be responsible for day excursions came up with the brilliant idea of an overnight trip to Penzance and an overnight trip home! Corridor stock and enough room to get some kip! Mr Heyl and myself got a day return to Plymouth and stopped off at Truro to do the Falmouth branch. This is how it was in 1974. A man with a bag on wheels, years ahead of his time! A Class 118 3-Car DMU with Motor Brake Second W51320 leading (and presumably 59472 + 51305 behind) stands at the single active platform at Falmouth ready to depart on another 11.75 mile journey to the bay platform on the Cornish Main Line at Truro on July 29th 1980. Although much rationalisation has taken place, at least passengers have been spared the bus shelter treatment, and the original platform canopy was still in use. Martyn Hilbert.
