Compilation of departmental details proceeding and will shortly go to Accountant for costing, special attention being given to Manchester  Part 4.

St.Pancras - Leicester - Nottingham
The Chairman requested that special attention be given to this scheme.
Broad Street - Tring
Various methods of operating the service at present under investigation.

It was noted that the preparation of all other proposals was proceeding and the Chairman requested that a complete progress statement be circulated for consideration at the next meeting.

2. Improved riding of Diesel Units

Noted that delivery of sufficient of the material required for the modification of the six 4-car units on the Manchester (Central) - Liverpool (Central) service would be made by December 1st, 1960 and that the work on these units would be completed three months after that date.

3. Allocation of units being built at Derby and by Contractors

Revised schedule of allocation attached as Appendix "B".

810. RAIL BUSES FOR RURAL AREAS

Bedford - Hitchin - Northampton Services

Noted that the proposal for the withdrawal of the passenger service on the Bedford - Northampton line has been approved by the Area Board and was being put to the appropriate T.U.C.C.

The draft proposal for the withdrawal of the Bedford - Hitchin service was in circulation through the departments concerned for approval.

Noted with the following comments:-

Maintenance facilities for diesel locomotives on the Midland Lines

The Chairman stressed the urgency for the submission of proposals for maintenance facilities for diesel locomotives on the Midland Lines, and it was agreed that at the next meeting of the Sub-Committee a progress schedule be prepared showing the present position of plans, estimates, target dates etc.
