613.  SERVICING AND MAINTENANCE ARRANGEMENTS

(1)  Minutes of meeting of Sub-Committee of August 28th noted.

(2)  Marylebone Suburban services - It was agreed that consideration be given to the use of Marylebone carriage shed for maintenance of units for this scheme in preference to Neasden in order to avoid empty running of units and improve the utilsation of train crews.

614.  SCHEMES AUTHORISED BUT NOT YET IN OPERATION

(1)  Manchester Part 2. (S.E.Lancs.)

First part of scheme introduced on June 9th, 1958.  Remainder of scheme would be brought into operation during 1959 as units are delivered.

(2)  Liverpool Lime Street - St.Helens - Wigan

Scheme authorised by Works & Equipment Committee on July 23rd, 1958.  Delivery of vehicles expected in April/May, 1959.  Mr.Reynolds stated that this scheme was being re-examined in the light of the review referred to in minute 610(2).

(3)  St.Pancras Suburban Scheme

Noted that the Commission had approved the allocation of 120 vehicles, two parcels vans and improvements to running facilities between Harpenden and Bedford.

Approval in principal had also been given to the development of a scheme for the provision of a multiple unit diesel depot at Cricklewood and for the preliminary works to be put in hand on the understanding that the estimated cost of the depot would need to be substantially reduced.

(a) Rolling Stock - Would be delivered between April and December, 1959, and noted that all details of design had now been settled.

(b) Improvements to running facilities between Harpenden and Bedford - Mr.Butland confirmed that this would be completed by September, 1959.

(c) Cricklewood maintenance depot - Noted that at a meeting with B.T.C. representatives attended by Mr.Gould it was generally agreed sound to build a new combined multiple unit and locomotive depot at Cricklewood.  The original proposals included four roads for the maintenance of diesel mutiple units, but it was agreed at the meeting that only three roads should be provided.

Mr.Butland reported that the final scheme was almost ready and would shortly be sent to the Director of Traffic Services.
