453.  GENERAL MATTERS OF POLICY

1.  Minutes of meeting of 7th June, 1956.

Agreed.

2.  Programme of Light Weight Diesel operation over next five years.

The Chairman referred to the new directive which has been received from the B.T.C. regarding the withdrawal of unremunerative passenger train services, which indicates a slight change of policy on the closing of branch lines, and asked for this to be borne in mind in connection with diesel light weight train programme.

The present diesel services and proposed diesel services over the next five years are as outlined below, and Messrs.Gould and Read said there will be other areas to be added to the list when consideration has been given to the services to be retained, but at the moment this is not sufficiently developed to give any firm proposals as to what is likely to be done.

The Chairman stressed the necessity for our requirements of vehicles to be placed with the B.T.C. as quickly as possible, and asked for the matter to be given special attention.
