241.  SUBURBAN AND CROSS COUNTRY SERVICES.   (Contd.)

(b)  Operation of four 2-car (MC + DT) Units.

Mr.Larkin said that trials are being arranged and he hopes to report at the next meeting.

(c)  Fuel consumption.

Noted that Mr.Harrison has supplied to the B.T.C. particulars of fuel consumption on the various trips undertaken by diesel cars and that a full report is being compiled.

242.  DIESEL UNITS FOR CONVEYANCE OF PARCELS TRAFFIC.

Mr.Stanley produced drawing DE.56370 of proposed diesel parcels unit, and it was pointed out that a trailer could be attached to these vehicles where necessary. The design has already been approved by Mr.Gould. Cost of parcels unit not known but anticipated would be cheaper than passenger vehicle.

Agreed Messrs.Read and Gould consider justification for introduction.

243.  INTER-CITY SCHEMES.

(a)  Design of Units.

Drawing No.21172 considered and agreed in principle. Mr.Larkin reported that Mr.Harrison was taking the initiative in calling a meeting at Derby with the appropriate officers of the L.M. and E. Regions.  C.C.M. an C.O.S. also to consult with officers of N.E.Region.

Mr.Gould to contact Mr.Roundell respecting buffet car requirements.

(b)  Liverpool - Leeds - Bradford Scheme.

To await consideration of design of units referred to in Minute 243(a).

(c)  Birmingham - Liverpool - Manchester Scheme.

To await consideration of design of units referred to in Minute 243(a).

244.  AUTOMATIC COUPLER.

Mr.Stanley reported that this is now mounted and under test and he will arrange for the E.R. Officers to inspect it when they are at Derby in connection with the design of an inter-city set.
