Railcar50 will be a celebration of 50
years of British Railways' First Generation DMUs. Vehicle 53170
(E50170) E50170 was new to Bradford (56G) as part of a power twin paired with E50166. In 1992 it was refurbished at Doncaster, and formed into set 101 692 with 53253 and 59303 allocated to Haymarket.
It was transferred to Corkerhill, losing the centre car, and painted into Strathclyde ("red") SPT livery. The set was then selected to be given a special livery for the inauguration of the Motherwell - Cumbernauld passenger services.It retained this when transferred to Longsite. It was withdrawn in October 2003. It is now part of the Midland Railway Centre fleet.
