Silver Fox have a Class 128 kit, available in several states of completeness, and can provide ready built DC Kits units. Craftsman produced etched brass overlay conversion kits, although we are unsure if these are still available. The range was:
Sadly, MTK are no longer with us. Although their kits were known to "grow" windows and certain other anomalies, and were not the easiest to build, they produced kits for nearly every DMU class. Happily, the MTK stock and toolings has been bought by a new firm, No Nonsense Kits, who are revamping the kits before re-release. More details can be found here. For N-gauge, kits see BH Enterprises and click the DMU link. Chassis for these are primarily intended to be Farish (which are unavailable at the moment) but alternatives are available eg "green Max" Japanese chassis from JR models (see http://web.ukonline.co.uk/jrmodels/Green-Max/Green-Max-Chassis.html ). O Gauge Kits (thanks to Alan Rushworth for this information) Easy Build Coaches have released a kit for a Class 129, including Hydra. See www.easybuildcoaches.co.uk for details. MiscellaneousIn the late '50s Anbrico released a variety of DMUs, including the 1956 Swindon Class 126, single car Derby Lightweights and some railbuses. Finally in OO, there was the Airfix Railbus kit, now made by Dapol, for which DC Kits produce a motorising kit. There is the promise of an AC Cars plastic kit coming soon from a new manufacturer. For those interested in HO, the British 1:87 Scale Society have produced a limited number of Class 101 kits. Full details can be found on the link. DMU expert Eddie Knorn can help DMU modellers with details of hundreds of unit formations observed in the late 70s and 1980s; for a given unit he can identify which cars were in it and what bits were smoking, non smoking, paint colours, seat colours etc. |
