116 DMU

A view of Maesteg Llynfi Junction on the 3rd of July 1971, the DMU is on the Dulais and Llynfi Valleys Railtour. Six Bells Junction notes the vehicles as 50091 + 59041 + 50133. The KDH Archive.

Now this is proper rolling stock for a Rail Tour, no seat reservation, proper loading facilities, and if the heating is not working you have material at hand to light a fire. Location is Maesteg Llynfi Junction on the 3rd of July 1971. The tour was the Branch Line Society Dulais and Llynfi Valleys Tour, which started in Cardiff and used, apart from this interlude, a Class 116 DMU seen on the left. With the porter waiting to cross the tracks Red Warship D815 Druid of Newton Abbot is seen arriving at Exeter St Davids on the 1V11 service from Waterloo on the 5th of May 1971. In the sidings is a Pressed Steel DTS, Laira only had on this date - 56289 - all others were at Reading, so it is presumably this one. The KDH Archive.

The 15.08 to Paisley Canal leaves Glasgow Central on 22/2/97. It is formed of unit 101 684, with 51509 leading and 51187 nearest the camera at the rear. Leonard Rogers.

The interior of cl.107 DMS no.52012, photographed at Edinburgh Waverley while the unit was in its last few months of service. The unit (107 733) had arrived as the 06.22 Fife "Inner Circle" service - Edinburgh to Edinburgh via Kirkcaldy, Thornton and Dunfermline. The coach bore notices saying "Scotrail apologises for the condition of these trains. I am sure you will be pleased to know that more modern trains will be introduced in the next few months. Meanwhile may I thank you for your patience and understanding. Signed (Fleet engineer)" Leonard Rogers.

The interior of cl.115 DMBS no. 51860. It is leading set T412, which, on this day, was composed of 51860/59751/59517/53116, forming the 16.50 B'ham New St - Longbridge on 6/7/93. The train is seen between Selly Oak and Bournville and is about to pass the late-running 13.04 Plymouth - Leeds HST led by 43086. Leonard Rogers.

101 DMU

Already withdrawn for eight months and awaiting eventual removal for scrapping at Springburn, 59115 sits in the depot yard at Haymarket on the evening of 29/5/94. Hiding behind the fuel tank on the right is 59302 in RR (Scotrail) livery. This latter vehicle had been removed from set 101 693 the previous August when the two power cars were transferred to Corkerhill. After spending some months as part of an unrefurbished unit, it was now surplus to requirements but would not be officially withdrawn until Jan. 1995, probably because it had only been refurbished in Summer 1992.
