Vehicle: 51783   

A Red Star branded set on Chester depot in the mid/late 1980s, the closest vehicle was originally one of the ScR DMBF conversions. Of the three that entered parcel use only one had the number under the second window (the others were closer to the BR arrows) making this 51783. David Rowe.

About to cross New Mills viaduct on 28th June 1986 is a Swindon Cross-Country class 120 dmu set, including 51573 + 51582 which has been converted to parcels use, the Red Star parcels branding can be seen down the side. These units were rare along here, this is the only time I think I saw one, it's possibly the only photograph I have of one along here! Andrew J Crowther.

An 'Express parcels' Class 120 DMU at Leeds in August 1986. The lack of a marker light above the destination box tells is this vehicle from the third batch, the vehicles are believed to be 51581 + 51585. Ian Docwra.

A two-car Swindon 'Cross Country' Class 120 DMU formed of Driving Motor Brake Seconds M51580 & M51574 back-to-back, was stabled in Croft Street Sidings adjacent to the Preston PSB on Sunday September 7th 1986. The unit spent its final period of operation in use as a mail/parcels set. Martyn Hilbert.

Of the three that entered parcel use only one had the number under the second window (the others were closer to the BR arrows) making this 51783. On Tour With the Class 13 Army.

Chester depot, circa October-November 1986, contains (l-r) a 116, 108, 142, parcel 120s and a 108. The closest parcel vehicle has no marker light above the destination blind so it is a batch three vehicle, of which only M51573 had oval buffers and an EP set number in parcel use. On Tour With the Class 13 Army.

Complete with Red Star Parcels logos, A hybrid Class 120/116 two-car parcels unit formed of Driving Motor Brake Seconds M51786 (120) and M53051 (116), was stabled in Croft Street Sidings at Preston on October 12th 1986. With the seats removed, the odd couple had been formed in the early part of 1986 for mail and parcels use. Martyn Hilbert.
