118 DMU

26th April 1986

Set: P461

Class 118 sets P461 + P460 at Laira depot on 26th April 1986. That day they worked the Plymouth Railway Circle 'Class 118 Farewell' railtour. Closest is P461 (51303 + 59470* + 51318), three vehicles that would be transferred to Bristol the next day. Behind is the unmistakable P460 (51302 + 59469 + 51317), they would follow to Bristol with the start of the summer timetable on 11 May. The farewell was short lived, both would be back at Laira - P460 a few weeks later, P461 at the start of August. *Keith noted the centre car in this set as 59478, another Laira vehicle that would transfer the same day and was soon noted running in the set. Keith Miller.

118 DMU

circa late 1970s

Set: B462

A suburban triple set in Cheltenham station, date unknown. The curved headcode box means it's a 118 or an early 117, the set number looks like if could be B462. From March 1976 this was formed 51304 + 59471 + 51319. W51304 being one of the 118s without marker lamps - these were fitted to it by March 1980 - so this was probably late 1970s. Phillip Malin.

118 DMU

Appleford Halt on 11 September 1971. Although the track has been relaid with concrete sleepers, the Halt itself still retains its GWR features - wooden platforms, the pagoda-shaped corrugated iron waiting shelters, and (off to the right) a brown and cream "APPLEFORD HALT" nameboard. BRC&W unit 470 (presumably 50305 + 59472 + 51320) is entering with the 17.20 Oxford to Paddington train. No doubt I'd visited Pendon, a modest walk across the meadows from here. Tom Burnham.
