On 15/05/1973 class 117 set L413 passes Crayford Station on a route learning run from Hoo Junction, through Dartford to Hither Green and then (probably) Reading. The lead car is probably 51355. This was a daily run at the time. I believe that this image of a DMU on the Dartford Loop line is unique. Robert Hope.

On November 10, 1973, the Western Region ran a ten-car DMU 'London Branch Lines Tour' from Paddington. It comprised a 4-car 117 set L464 with a 101 centre car (51407 + 59538 + 59517 + 51365), 3-car 117 (51398 + 59508 + 51356) and a 3-car Class 118 (51305 + 59472 + 51320). At one time rare in Hereford, Reading based sets began to appear regularly with the start of a through train from Oxford in the early 70s. Here L416 runs into the "up" platform, ready for the return run. The tail-lamp is still in position from its last service... John Crooks.

Reading allocated Class 117 W51408 in Birmingham New Street on 1 Jun 1974. Quite a long way from home I assume 2A10 was an afternoon DMU fill-in turn from Oxford or Banbury. Alistair Ness.
