One of the aesthetically pleasing Class 110 BRCW 'Calder Valley' dmu sets is seen at York on 2nd July 1981. The leading car , E51809, was ex shops on 5/6/81 explaining its pristine condition. It lasted in service until 1989 before being cut up at Vic Berry's yard in Leicester. Here E51809 is leading E59814 and E52076. The redundant four character headcode panel has been plated over, this modification happened from around 1977 onwards following the abandonment of the codes. Gerard Fletcher.
A 1961 built BRC&W built "MetroTrain" branded class 110 'Calder Valley' 2 car dmu, E51809 and E51846, leaves Oxspring Tunnel on the old Wath branch of the 1500DC Woodhead system, with a Huddesfield-Sheffield service, 28th March 1987. These units were an updated version of the class 104 but powered by the much more powerful Rolls Royce C6NFLH engines , 2 per driving car, designed for the route they were built for, the Lancashire & Yorkshire mainline, hence the nickname 'Calder Valley' they were originally delivered as 3 car units. The last of the class were taken out of service in October 1989 but by then they were no longer common in the Calder Valley. Andrew J Crowther.

On December 2nd, 1983 Class 110 DMBC (or now it seems a DMBS) E51811 passes through the crossing at Goole with the 09:35 service to Leeds. Hamish Stevenson.
E51812 + E59697 + E51842 seen in York station on 25/07/1986, with another Class 110 on the left. They are in what was then platforms 10 / 11, these bays became platforms 6 / 7 and generally used for services on the direct route to Leeds and beyond, e.g. to Bradford Interchange and on to Manchester Victoria or Blackpool via Calder Valley route.
