August 1982
A 2 car Class 108 dmu (possibly E50621 leading) passes through the original station at Chapeltown, South Yorkshire, opened by the Midland Railway in 1897. New platforms were opened on 2nd August 1982 around 600m nearer the town centre and can be seen in the background. The line links Sheffield and Leeds/Penistone via Barnsley. Paul Braybrook.

8th August 1982
On 8 August 1982 three extraordinary trains ran from Skipton to Embsay on the Yorkshire Dales Railway. This was possible because the main line track was slewed to connect on this day. The stock used comprised Derby-built class 108 DMU cars 50599 and 50635, both new in 1958. The headboard (and the ticket) named the trips as "Yorkham's Flying Banger", they were sponsored by Yorkham's of Blubberhouses in connection with a "real food" festival at Embsay. Jeremy Chapter.

A joint BR/Steamport Museum open day at Southport on the 11th September 1982, featured a shuttle service between Southport Station and the Museum premises, hauled by Birkenhead allocated Class 03, 03189 with a 2-car Class 108 dmu. The ensemble is seen from the Windsor Road Footbridge heading from BR metals into the Steamport premises. Martyn Hilbert.
11th September 1982
A joint BR/Steamport Open Day at Southport on September 11th 1982, saw a connecting service between Southport Station and the former Engine Shed in Derby Road, operated by Birkenhead based 03189 with Class 108 DMU M52051/M51936 providing the passenger accomodation. With former West Lancashire Railway land as a backdrop, 03189 propels one of the frequent shuttles away from the Steamport Museum and was about to pass under Windsor Road Footbridge. The Museum closed in 1999 and the site is now a retail park. The land above the 03 was the former route to the original West Lancashire Railway terminus station at Derby Road, used by services of the independent company when the line opened in 1883 from Preston until it was absorbed by the L&Y in 1897, the station being closed to passenger trains in 1901 following remodelling at Chapel Street. The WLR station was then used for goods traffic until 1973. Martyn Hilbert.

Looking towards Southport from Windsor Road footbridge on September 11th 1982. During a joint BR/Steamport Museum open day, Birkenhead allocated Class 03 Diesel Shunter 03189 was hauling a Class 108 DMU formed of cars M52051 & M51936 on a shuttle service between Southport station and the platform at the far-end of the short museum running line. With the 03 and the DMU trundling back towards the station, LMS Jinty 7298 with Mark 1 RMB Buffet Car 1839 & former LMS Inspection Saloon DM45048 were operating the internal Museum shuttle. Birkenhead allocated 03189 was having a weekend at Southport during a joint BR/Steamport open day on September 11/12th 1982, when the 03 and a Class 108 DMU (M52051/M51936) formed a shuttle service between the Museum in Derby Road and Southport Station. In this view the exhibits on display are visible in platforms 5 & 6. The tracks in the foreground were once electrified and used by the services to Meols Cop and Crossens. Martyn Hilbert.

Freshly painted DMUs in Swindon Works on 20 September 1982. There seems to be plenty of mechanical work underway, note the large extractors above the vehicle ends allowing the vehicles to be run without creating a smoke filled shed. There are plenty of mechanical parts up the centre including air receivers, heaters, starter motors, a radiator and board with a variety of gaskets. Keith Miller.
