An old Instamatic image with a mixed Met Camm + Cravens triple set forming a mid-day Edinburgh to North Berwick service on 27th May 1978, seen having just left the East Coast Main line at Drem. Murray Liston.

BR blue Tyseley hybrid DMU with Class 105 51282, Class 127 59617 and a class 100 DMBS call at Five Ways with a Four Oaks - Longbridge service on 27 May 1978, in the early weeks of the Birmingham Cross-City line. Although it has fallen back a Tyseley set number - possibly TS418 - can be seen in the left cab window. This station, on the site of the original closed in the 1940s, had opened on 8 May, along with new stations at University and Longbridge. A WMPTE 1969 dual door Daimler Fleetline crosses the bridge in the background. Chris Morrison.

Set: TS413

Tyseley hybrid DMU set TS413 (Class 105 DMCL M50786, a Class 105 DTSL which looks like M56456 and a Class 101 DMBS) with a refurbished Class 116 on the rear is seen on a southbound ECS leaving Four Oaks on 30 May 1978. Michael Mensing.

Class 105 E50373 coupled to a Met-Camm in Edinburgh Waverley on 16 June 1978. This was one of the regular schools excursions which used to come up from the North East at this time in the run up to the summer holidays. Most like this one terminated at Edinburgh but some went on to Stirling or over to Fife in order to take the kids across the Forth Rail Bridge. Alistair Ness.

Set: 69

Stabled at Norwich MPD on Friday the 23rd June 1978 is Class 105 DTCL 56435, half of Norwich Set No.69. I believe from my records that the vehicle behind is the other half of Set No.69 Class 100 DMBS 51120. Interestingly 51120 was withdrawn just 6 days after this image was taken on the 29th June 1978 being scrapped at Mayer Newman, Snailwell during May 1981. 56435 would continue in service for almost another 6 years however being withdrawn in May 1984 before following 51120 through the firing tunnel at Snailwell in October 1984. Standing amongst the Rhodendrons, A Cravens Class 105 Power-Twin with M50810 trailing, calls at Pleasington whilst working the 11.45 Preston to Colne service on June 23rd 1978. The small station at rural Pleasington became a request stop in May 2012. Martyn Hilbert.
