This is set 86 comprising E50590, E59221 and at the rear out of frame E50583. The train is the 17.23 Peterborough - Norwich of Friday 28th March 1980 which was pretty much an all stations affair I seem to recall. It is seen arriving at a rather wet March station. Gerard Fletcher.

The wires are in place for the Ayrshire electrification which would go live the following month. The centre car is a Metro-Cammel vehicle (59090). A BRC&W class 104 DMU (M56175 closest) waits for it's departure time at Rose Hill (Marple) with a service to Manchester Piccadilly. Rose Hill was the first stop on the once on the through route from Marple Wharf Junc to Macclesfield a distance of 11 miles, which closed to all traffic on the 5th January 1970 (now the Middlewood Way footpath) with this short section to Rose Hill being retained. 29th September 1979.
