A four-car BRC&W DMU departing from Hull Paragon. With one of the visible vehicles in blue this is likely late 1960s. DMCL E50580 is closest, it was a Hull vehicle from new until 1975, after which it moved to Neville Hill where it remained until withdrawal in 1981. Graham Clark.

 DMU

Unknown Date

A Trans-Pennine service departing from Hull Paragon, led by E51952. It is the only vehicle still in green livery, so this was probably taken in the late 1960s. Graham Clark.

 DMU

May 1968

SC79036 + 79189 pass West Parade North Junction on the Scarborough line at Hull in May 1968. Officially withdrawn (from Leith Central in June 1967), they were in route learning use, possibly based at York. Seen at lunchtime on their return from the coast, these route learners were a regular feature in the Spring months for several years: they originated in West Yorkshire and took men over the route to Brid and Scarborough in preparation for the summer extras to the coastal resorts. Leonard Rogers.

 DMU

June 1970

A four-car Class 104 DMU decorated for some school specials / publicise the Scarborough line. The style was from the Ken Dodd show - he was in Scarborough for the season and made an appearance on the trains. Taken in Hull Paragon in June 1970. Note the frame fitted the lamp brackets, and the marker lamps seem to be be missing the glass (or are very clean!). Allan Dawson.

 DMU

March 1971

March 1971. Half a century ago I persuaded my dad to lend me his Practika camera and I took my first two railway photographs. I don't know the exact date, but I recall it was just before my twelfth birthday. I'd been a "spotter" for a few years and although I had an Instamatic camera, for some reason I hadn't pointed it at trains, apart from an attempt at capturing Flying Scotsman in 1968, an abject failure due to forgetting to wind on the film. On this visit to Botanic Gardens shed in Hull, I decided to give it a go. There are two pairs of green EE Type 2s (Class 20 in new money) along with a mixture of DMUs (Met-Camms and a Trans-Pennine DMC in blue/grey), all of which was regular fare for BG. The locos are stabled on what were once the running lines to Hull docks and the seaside resorts of Hornsea and Withernsea. These lines closed completely in 1965. Syd Young.

 DMU

1972

From my first-ever roll of railway photographs when I was aged thirteen. A Trans-Pennine unit, complete with Buffet car, runs into Botanic Gardens Depot in 1972. On the far left EE Type 4 399 and Brush Type 4 1996, both in green are stabled. On the far right EE Type 2 8316 is also trundling into the sidings. The photograph was taken on a Kodak Instamatic 25 camera and is scanned from a Kodak 126 negative. Syd Young.
