A Class 105 at Cambridge with a stopping service to Kings Cross. Date unknown. Peter Heppenstall.

 DMU

18th September 1977

Class 105 DTCL E56414 stands on the Cambridge MPD refuelling point on the 18th September 1977 attached to an unknown Class 105 DMBS. Judging by the Kings Cross destination blind I imagine she was still allocated to Finsbury Park MPD at this time although she had moved north to Norwich by 1980. Withdrawn in November 1982 she was scrapped at Snailwell during October 1983. Bob Woolnough.

 DMU

24th June 1978

Set: 35

Norwich MPD allocated Set No.35 led by Class 104 DTCL E56186 awaits it's next duty at the North end of Cambridge Station. At the next Platform is sister Set No.46 led by Class 104 DTCL E56188 who also calls Norwich MPD home. E56186 would be withdrawn in February 1984 being scrapped by Vic Berry in their Leicester Yard 2 years later, while E56188 was withdrawn in February 1982 and was disposed of by Mayer Newman at their local Snailwell Yard in November of that year. Bob Woolnough.

 DMU

24th June 1978

Stored in Ely Goods Yard, Cambridgeshire on the 24th June 1978 CL126 DMBS SC79157 had already been out of service for nearly 6 years. Some stripping of the vehicle had been undertaken but the presence of Asbestos Insulation has so far left it fairly intact. Operational from February 1957 until October 1972 she had called Leith Central MPD in Edinburgh home for all her service life as can be seen by the 64H shed code still clearly stencilled on her drivers side sole bar. Eventually towed to Mayer Newmans Yard at Snailwell she had been scrapped by June 1983. Bob Woolnough.

 DMU

24th June 1978

My previous image of a Class 126 having been an corridor connection equipped DMBS version, SC79157, this image portrays an outer unit DMBSL vehicle SC79100 complete with a standard drivers cab, guards van and toilet. She spent her working life, September 1956 to October 1972, at Leith Central MPD, Edinburgh before being dragged to Ely en route for storage and eventual disposal at the local Mayer Newman's Yard and had been dispatched through their firing tunnel at Snailwell by August 1983. Bob Woolnough.

With Spillers Mill dominating the scene, Cravens Class 105 two-car DMU set 32 was stabled between duties at Cambridge on April 30th 1980. To the left of the Cravens, an old internal user LNER coach is visible, whilst stabled on the centre road is a snowplough converted from a former LNER tender. The mill suffered a fire in 2010 during renovation, and the surviving portion has been converted to residential apartments. Martyn Hilbert.

Set: 77

Two Cravens DMUs waiting to depart from Cambridge for Ipswich and Ely on 18 January 1981. Closest is a DTCL from set 77 - it seems to have been one of the vehicles that was built with four marker lamps - the centre two have been removed and plated over. The other vehicle is the DMBS from set 35 and has the mounting for the top centre marker lamp. It is thought to be 50384 which also once had four lamps. Rob Edwards.
