Class 105 St Albans Abbey 29 June 1981. It was a boiling hot day which got even hotter when I boarded the Cravens for a trip along the branch to Watford Junction. Alistair Ness.

The Hertfordshire Railtours "Fenbasher" rail tour is seen at Abbey on the former Downham and Stoke Ferry railway. Formation of the tour was 51881+59676+59661+51661, all Marylebone-based class 115 Derby Suburban coaches. This was the 4 July 1981 running of the tour, which ran again three weeks later. A mad rush for seats as a class 104 DMU pulls into St Albans Abbey in 1984, a station that once sported an overall roof. At least the station survives, the line from Watford Junction being electrified in 1988. Kevin Lane Collection.

A picture from the "Ian Allan Network Day" on 24 October 1987. 2-car Derby DMU nos. 51909 + 54271 at St Albans Abbey, having arrived on the 14.55 ex-Watford Junction. We had gone to Watford Junction as the St Albans branch trains were supposed to be worked on this day by a Class 33/1 and 4-TC trailer, but we found that 33102 had failed earlier the same afternoon, and was dumped in a siding at Watford Junction.
