A three-car Derby built Class 116 DMU has arrived at Southminster on the 16.5 mile branch from Wickford May 1st 1980. Driving Motor Brake Second E50865 leads in this view looking towards the buffer stops. The station retained its run-round loop, as the branch was visited by nuclear flask trains servicing Bradwell Nuclear Power Station. Visible in this view is a distant shunting disc signal complete with yellow band. The branch was electrified in 1986 and is now known as the Crouch Valley Line. Martyn Hilbert.

A Cravens two-car DMU (note the headlamps) rasps out of Southminster station, past the 1889-built signal box and on towards Wickford in April 1983. The goods shed still seems to be in some sort of use and note the gantry beyond, used to unload flasks that arrived by road from Bradwell nuclear power station. The line was electrified in 1986 whilst the power station was in use from 1962 until decommissioning from 2002. Kevin Lane Collection.
A Stratford allocated 3-car class 116 DMU set is seen in the branch terminus at Southminster on 31/03/84. The DMU will depart as train 2J15 the 12.25 to Wickford. This rural backwater on the Essex Marshes was electrified two year after this shot was taken with electric services starting on 12th May 1986 since then new housing on the route has seen a and more frequent services introduced with two trains an hour on the 16 mile long branch.
