A five-car class 126 DMU departs Prestwick for Glasgow Central in the mid-1970s (It is missing one DMBS). For nearly 25 years, these B.R. Swindon built units were the mainstay of the routes from Glasgow to Ayrshire. In the background, to the right is Prestwick Golf Club, the venue for the very first Open Golf Championship. I. BRCW Class 104 DMBS 53598 is the trailing power car in mixed Set 455 seen here leaving Prestwick station in August 1986. The wires are in place for the Ayrshire electrification which would go live the following month. The centre car is a Metro-Cammel vehicle (59090). A typically mixed set in the final fling of the DMU in Scotland. Andrew McConnell.

A Class 120/101/101 formation at Prestwick, circa August / September 1986. The DMBC seems to be missing a digit from its set number, Ayr had many 5xx sets at the time (the formations changed frequently). Note it also still has 'EP' under the left cab window, and it has oval buffers. Although carrying just set number 52, this is set 520 formed of 53711 + 59046 + 53749. Andrew McConnell.
