Set: 142

Two Class 107 DMU sets seen in Girvan station circa early 1970s. The closest car has set number 142 on what seems to be a traffolyte plaque that is either riveted or screwed on. It also still has a cab handrail that acts as a drain for the gutter, a cracked lens on the left marker lamp - both of which need a good clean, and two headcode blinds that need sorting. The working is likely a Glasgow-Stranraer service, unusual for 107s. Stuart Mackay Collection.

 DMU

5th July 1979

Instamatic Interludes. Class 126 at Girvan waiting for the off. There’s time for the signalman to chat to the driver before the 08:35 Glasgow Central to Stranraer Harbour heads south, facing a stiff climb to the summit (and tunnel) at Pinmore, thence the intermediate station at Barrhill. There always seemed to be a yellow track machine stabled in the siding in the distance. The line was double track as far south as Girvan but by that time it had been singled from Belmont Crossing (Ayr) with an intermediate passing loop at Kilkerran. The red signs at the foot of the signals proclaimed ‘Token Working’ with Girvan presumably being the limit of ‘Tokenless Block Working’ from Kilkerran. Note the car just peeping out next to the ‘box, coincidentally, the same colour as the signalman’s jumper … and what would today’s H&S brigade think of the footware? Well, it is summer! Thursday 05 July 1979. alicia hartman.

 DMU

30th April 1981

This is obviously a Branch Line Society railtour! Swindon Cross-Country car 51787 really could not have travelled further down the branch to Girvan Goods on the second day of the "Ayrshire Wanderer" tour on 30 August 1981. A few weeks later this car would be transferred to England (at Derby Etches Park). Jeremy Chapter.

 DMU

30th August 1981

The 1981 BLS Scottish Tour was the Ayrshire Wanderer which ran in two parts. The Sunday tour (30 August) started and finished at Ayr and here we are at Girvan Goods. For some reason we spent ages here, probably due to awaiting a path on the Stranraer line where we were headed next, so I put the time to good use and walked much further away from the train to take my shot. It was formed of 51787/59685/51529. Alistair Ness.

 DMU

7th August 1985

Set: 107432

Two sets near Girvan with a northbound service on 7th August 1985. The leading has had the 432 removed from the set number, it would probably mean this is 52026. It seems to be a 107/107/possibly 104 formation. John Crooks.
