A Swindon 79xxx series Inter-City DMU on a South Wales test run. This appeared in the August 1957 Western Region staff magazine, submitted by Carmarthen passenger shunter Peter M Ives, and so was presumably taken in the Carmarthen area. Peter M Ives.

Class 100 DTCL E56317 is seen stabled in a siding at Carmarthen on 22 November 1975 awaiting movement to a new life in preservation on the Gwili Railway. The vehicle had spent just 16 years in service with BR, it would stay on the Gwili Railway for almost 20 years. This was followed by 20 years of storage at a variety of other sites before disposal in 2016. Robert Thomas.

Class 120 Cross-Country set 555 (51590 and presumably 59582 + 51576) sits in the platform at Carmarthen as does 37 182 and some Mark Is. On the left the unique Booth car 1106 destined for the Gwili Railway has been craned onto a truck without bogies, and a siding contains a rake of postal vehicles.20th December 1980. Robert Thomas.
A rather grubby Class 120 'Swindon Cross Country' set no. C615 (51781+59682+51788) is seen at Carmarthen during its reversal with train 2C64 the 13.15 Swansea to Milford Haven on 11/04/81. These 'Swindon' sets were synonymous with West Wales in the late 1970's early 80's with a mix of 2 and 3 car units covering the majority of no loco hauled services. Adrian Nicholls.
