With electrification work in progress, two two-car Derby Lightweight DMUs arrive at Manchester London Road with the 3.0pm ex-Marple on 9th April 1960. On the left is English Electric Type 4 D236, between it an the church is a steam loco, the electrification train behind the DMU has a 350hp diesel shunter at the far end. Note also the significant number of young spotters crammed onto the platform end on the lower left.
