A 5-Car Trans-Pennine DMU set had just arrived at Liverpool Lime Street with a service from Hull on May 22nd 1979. Complete with its oil tail-lamp, E51965 was a Driving Motor Composite. These stylish DMUs, built at Swindon Works in 1960 had a mixture of saloon and compartment seating. They were stalwarts on the Liverpool-Hull route for most of their lives, until the last few were withdrawn in 1984.
