79663 is on loan to Mangapps Farm Railway from the North Norfolk
Railway for summer 2003.
79662 and 79664 were bought by the Keighley & Worth Valley
Railway, being based at it's Haworth depot from 1967.
Although not widely known, 79962 and 79964 visited Doncaster
MPD for tyre turning in October 1980. They ran in both
directions under their own power with KWVLR drivers driving under BR supervision, and reached their 55 mph maximum speed
in both directions.

Similarly back in 1970 both railbuses ran under their own power
to Shipley to turn on the triangle in order to get the driven axle at
the downhill (Keighley) end.

After 15 years
of the two vehicles providing the Saturday and Sunday morning service
every weekend between Keighley and Oxenhope, the K&WVR held a
celebration for the 25th anniversary of British Diesel Railbus
service. British Rail Research participated in the 17/7/83 event by
sending LEV from Derby, what was planned to be the future 'railbus'.
This picture was taken on the 16th July '83. Incidentally, this
was not the only time that old and new railbuses operated
together on the KWVLR. On at least two occasions, possibly
more, visiting Class 141 railbuses also worked alongside the WMD
railbuses. Basil Hancock |
